A Crafty Thanksgiving

Monday, October 12, 2015

During the holidays, I really miss working in a classroom. Part of the fun of working with younger kids in a school environment is getting to decorate the classroom and do simple (but fun) art projects. As Thanksgiving here in Canada is tomorrow and I work in a hospital now, it's unlikely that I'll be doing many Thanksgiving-themed crafts this year. If I were though, these would be what I would make:

This is simple and elegant, and doesn't require too many supplies. Plus, being pumpkins, they'd be good from Thanksgiving all the way through to Halloween.

Can't get much more autumn than acorns, and I like the idea of making them fit a particular colour theme. I really like the glittery ones in particular.

Edible and adorable? That's something I can get behind for sure. Rice Krispie treats are a surefire hit for most kids and adults, and making them look like turkeys is the cutest idea.

Another turkey craft, but that's kind of one of the main icons of the holiday. I like the use of feathers and goggly eyes, plus the fact that the popsicle sticks are left square.

September Days Treasury: Etsy Favourites

Wednesday, September 30, 2015

Those who know me know that I love to browse Etsy on a regular basis. There are so many great products, especially craft kits, and if I wasn't limited by income or common sense (or at least the common sense of others around me), I'd be buying things off this website all the time. So instead, I make a lot of treasuries. This one, September Days, encompasses some of my favourites from September 2015.

I purchased this back at the beginning of September, because I love the colour scheme and the simplicity of it. I'd been eyeing a lot of cross stitch . I'm ashamed to admit that although I've bought the embroidery floss, I haven't yet started on the pattern.

Squirrel Embroidery Kit - kirikipress
This is the other item from this treasury that I have purchased. It's actually sitting on the table in front of me as I type this, half done. The shipping was quick and the project itself is adorable. I highly recommend it!

I'm a huge fan of yoga hair ties because they don't snap (which is a real problem if you have thick hair) and they come in such fun colours and nice prints. This set is particularly beautiful and season-appropriate.

And another cross stitch pattern. These pillows have a lovely folk art style (which I'm fond of) and a vibrant colour scheme. It's definitely on my wishlist.

Tiny Gold Crossed Arrows Necklace - Tiffany Avenue Bridal
There's just something about arrows that say autumn to me, and maybe that's because they're so popular this season. I've got a beautiful white pencil case that I don't want to use (because it's so pretty) that's white with gold arrows stamped on it. This is just as pretty.

Last Minute Christmas Crafts

Wednesday, December 24, 2014

Feeling like doing a little late-night crafting this Christmas Eve? I recently revisited one of my old favourites: Cinnamon Christmas ornaments! You can watch my Youtube tutorial (click here!) to learn how to make them yourself.

These ones above I made, admittedly, while I was in a bit of a rush. As a result, I forgot to put glitter into the mixture while it was wet, and I also forgot to poke holes so that I could string them up and hang them on things! However, all hope was not lost as I did have some glitter glue handy. As well, my Christmas tree at the apartment has very convenient nooks and crannies for placing ornaments in without using strings.

All's well that ends well. Merry Christmas!

Craft Inspiration: All About Ombre

Tuesday, May 20, 2014
It's the Tuesday morning after a long weekend, and I am ready for a short week at work. Despite the lovely weather (I'll have pictures up soon!), I spent quite a bit of the weekend indoors, catching up on my sleep. While I don't regret the much-needed rest, I do regret not making time to do some crafting. To make up for this, I spent my ride in this morning browsing the Whimseybox projects page. I wanted to share a few of my favourites, all of which have one thing in common: Ombre!

https://whimseybox.com/projects/pretty-wooden-vases

I know that ombre has been around for a while now, but I am still very much a fan, especially when it comes to crafts like these wooden vases by Design Love Fest! I like how they are both colourful and rustic. The fact that they don't look super polished adds to the charm, I think.

Another ombre-styled project I want to try are these adorable candle votives by The House That Lars Built. I love how delicate they look with the cut out sections and the pale pink colouring.

Now who doesn't like the occasional doughnut? I'd hazard a guess that very few people would pass on one given the chance, especially if they were coloured like these ones by Paper and Stitch. These are actually making me pretty hungry right now. The pink and orange one to the right of the centre is my favourite.

If anyone is reading this and has made any of these crafts, please let me know. Also, if you have any other great ombre-inspired craft ideas, send me a link because I'd love to see them.

Hope everyone is having a lovely Tuesday thus far. See you tomorrow!

Whimseybox Project: Paper Flower Crown

Wednesday, May 07, 2014

If you follow me on YouTube, you'll know that I purchased a 3-month Whimseybox subscription and have thus far received two boxes (March and April). I can't wait for the weekend to break out the calligraphy pen I received in the April box (this week is going by so slowly), but until then I am occupying myself with the Whimseybox website. Their projects section is set up similar to Pinterest, where you can browse craft ideas and save your favourites.

One of the crafts that I think may be nice to make for Mother's Day is the Paper Flower Crown . It looks like this:

If you're looking for a nice handmade tag to go with it, how about this one:

DIY Tutorial: Valentine's Day Tea

Wednesday, February 12, 2014

If you're looking for a simple handmade little gift for Valentine's Day, look no further! Tea lovers will surely love this craft. Check out the video tutorial I filmed:

DIY Tutorial: Raspberry Sugar Lip Scrub

Sunday, January 26, 2014

Although I haven't been around much lately, I haven't forgotten about this blog! January has been a busy month, what with work and exams. However, I have managed to find time to do a quick DIY tutorial.

For Christmas I received the brown sugar lip scrub from Fresh, which is amazing. However, it is also pretty expensive and lip scrubs are relatively simple to make at home. Since Valentine's Day is right around the corner, and because I bought Raspberry Syrup from Starbucks, I decided to make a raspberry sugar lip scrub at home. I filmed it as a tutorial, which you can watch on my youtube channel here.

This lip scrub smells and tastes so good! It also works really well. I can't get enough of lip scrubs or raspberry flavoured things right now.

If you try this out, please send me a photo or even a comment about the result. I want to see if you like it as much as I do!
